I’ve never been one for gadgets, and until now I’ve resisted the call of the Instant Pot, air fryers, and the like. I don’t have room for all of these things! That being said, I was recently given an air fryer by a regular client in order to showcase their product in an air fryer in their social content photography.
The first weekend I had the air fryer I was a bit nervous because I didn’t know where to begin. After reading through the manual over and over, I finally said, “Enough is enough!”. I opened the fridge, chopped up an on-the-cusp-of-being-tossed-in-the-compost eggplant, cooked it for 20 minutes, and I was hooked! I sat at the kitchen table by myself, devouring a WHOLE EGGPLANT (it was SO DELICIOUS) wondering, “What else can I put in the air fryer?”
Turns out, a lot of things. So far I’ve cooked canned chickpeas, fresh and frozen fries, raw sausages, hotdogs, broccoli, shrimp, bacon, chicken wings, and even whole eggs! The other night I made a batch of my simple homemade tomato sauce and wanted to add roasted garlic. The air fryer roasted garlic I made turned out so well, I thought I’d share! Trust me, it’s super simple, and SUPER tasty.
Please note, this post is not sponsored. If you’re wondering, I have a Philips Analog Airfryer. The air fryer is great, however, if I had realized at the time, I would have bought the Philips Digital Airfryer instead. For the same price, I could have had touch buttons, instead of a manual dial that can’t be turned off once it’s on.

Ingredients
Step-By-Step Instructions
Carefully slice the top ¼-inch (½-cm) or so from the top of a whole bulb of fresh garlic.
Place the cut bulb, along with the sliced off top, in the middle of a square of aluminum foil.
Drizzle the olive oil all over the exposed cloves of garlic in the bulb.
Some of the oil will leak out of the bulb. Rub the outside of the bulb all over, as well as the cut-off top, in any oil that leaks onto the foil.
Place the cut off top back on the bulb and wrap the whole thing, tightly but gently, in the foil square.
Squeeze the foil at the top of the bulb to compact, then bend the top of the foil over so it will fit in the airfryer standing up.
Place the wrapped bulb of garlic in the middle of an airfryer basket, standing right-side up. Place the basket in an airfryer and cook the garlic until the cloves are tender and/or golden.
Remove the garlic from the airfyer a few times during cooking if you want, gently and carefully peeling the foil back in order to check on its doneness. Once the garlic is cooked to your liking, remove it from the airfryer with tongs, and set it aside to cool slightly, about 15 minutes.
Once cool enough to handle, unwrap the foil and squeeze the air fryer roasted garlic bulb from the bottom, over and into a small bowl. As you squeeze the bulb, pushing upwards with your thumbs and fingers, the cooked cloves of garlic will squeeze out like toothpaste from a tube.
Use air fryer roasted garlic as a topping on pizza or garlic bread, in pastas, mixed into your breakfast eggs, as an ingredient in sauces, as a spread on sourdough bread, and more. Air fryer roasted garlic is especially terrific in mashed potatoes!
Notes & Tips
If you prefer air fryer roasted garlic to have a deeper gold colour, like the bulb pictured below, do not place the cut off top on the bulb during cooking.
Air fryer roasted garlic will keep inside an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week, and in the freezer for up to two months.
Substitutions
You can substitute any neutral tasting oil — such as canola, vegetable, avocado, or coconut — for the olive oil.

Air Fryer Roasted Garlic
Air fryer roasted garlic is one of the easiest and most delicious ways to add extra flavour to meals. Just cut, drizzle, wrap, and cook!
Ingredients
- 1 bulb fresh garlic
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
Instructions
- Carefully slice the top ¼-inch (½-cm) or so from the top of a whole bulb of fresh garlic. Place the cut off top back on the bulb and wrap it, tightly but gently, in the foil square.
- Squeeze the foil at the top of the bulb to compact, then bend the top of the foil over so it will fit in the airfryer standing up.
- Place the wrapped bulb of garlic in the middle of an airfryer basket, standing right-side up. Place the basket in an airfryer and cook the garlic at 350ºF (180ºC) for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cloves are tender and/or golden.
- Remove the garlic from the airfyer a few times during cooking if you want, in order to check on it’s doneness. Once the garlic is cooked to your liking, remove it from the airfryer with tongs, and set it aside to cool slightly, about 15 minutes.
- Once cool enough to handle, simply squeeze the cooked bulb from the bottom over a small plate or bowl. As you squeeze the bulb, pushing upwards with your thumbs and fingers, the cooked cloves of garlic will squeeze out like toothpaste from a tube. Use roasted garlic as a topping on pizza or garlic bread, in pastas, mixed into your breakfast eggs, as an ingredient in sauces, as a spread on sourdough bread, and more!
