Homemade baked beans
with molasses are a family favorite! A year-round comfort food recipe, soak beans in the morning, boil in the evening, and bake overnight. Great for summer cookouts or cold weather!
Soak dried beans in cold water for 8 hours, or up to overnight.
Cook the beans in water with baking soda. Drain and keep the liquid.
Stir ketchup, molasses, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and ground mustard in a cast iron Dutch oven.
Stir in chopped bacon and onion.
Stir in the reserved bean cooking water and the cooked beans.
Bake the beans on low heat in the oven for 8 hours. Serve hot as a meal or side.
